His Excellency, Ambassador Dr Ngosa Simbyakula, SC presented his credentials to the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres on 28th January 2020 and became the 17th Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations. Prior to his appointment as Permanent Representative (PR) of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations, Dr Ngosa Simbyakula was Zambia's Ambassador to the United States of America in Washington DC. Before his appointment to the Diplomatic Service, Ambassador Dr Simbyakula was a Member of Parliament. During that period he held the portfolio of Minister of Justice in the Zambian Cabinet. He has also served as Minister of Home Affairs. Dr Simbyakula is a lawyer by profession and has spent most of his working life in academia. He taught for many years at the University of Zambia from 1981, during which time he rose through the ranks to the position of Dean of the faculty of the School of Law from 1993 to 1998.
Dr Simbyakula also served in the Zambian Civil Service as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the Ministry of Justice.
From 2006 to 2009, Ambassador Simbyakula served as Executive Director of the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education, an institution which provides a one year postgraduate training programme and sets Bar examinations for law graduates who seek admission to the Zambian Bar.
Dr Simbyakula has previously served as Vice Chairman of the Zambian Tax Appeals Tribunal where he heard and adjudicated upon tax appeals from taxpayers aggrieved by decisions of the Zambia Revenue Authority against them.
Ambassador Simbyakula is a graduate of the University of Zambia where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws. He also holds a Master of Laws specializing in constitutional law. From 1986 to 1990 Dr Simbyakula was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Law in the USA where he earned his Doctorate (S.J.D) in Law with specialization in tax law.

NEW YORK, Monday, 18th September, 2017-His Excellency Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has called for accelerated efforts towards the elimination of child early and forced marriages in Africa which has become a scourge and hampering the sustainable growth of many economies on the Continent.
The High Level side event was attended by His Excellency, Malawian President Professor Peter Mutharika, His Excellency President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni and Netherlands’ Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Liliane Ploumen.
“We are doomed if we do not empower and support the girl child and our women,” President Lungu said.

Zambia a symbol of peace, stability - UN
NEW YORK, Thursday, 29th January, 2020 – The United Nations (UN) has described Zambia as a symbol of peace and political stability in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region.
United Nations (UN) Secretary General António Guterres has hailed Zambia for having remained a beacon of peace and stability in the Southern region as well as being an important member of the global governance body.
Mr Guterres has also extolled Zambia for her continued desire to promote peace in the world by remaining one of the major contributor of peace troops to peacekeeping missions in the world.
